Worth More Than Gold

Sometimes it takes tragedy

painful, heart wrenching tragedy

so painful you can't breathe

for people to reevaluate life

what is immeasurably important

and what means nothing

coming to the final conclusion

what they worried about

wasn't worth a damn at all

and those they loved deeply

cared about immensely

were worth more than gold

sharing with our neighbors

would happen easily everyday

because we all understood

but maybe just maybe

we could learn some of that

before a shattering heartbreak

a gut-wrenching tragedy

and maybe just maybe

we would all be wiser

because we understood

tragedy will come for all of us

and regrets are hard to live with
