The Core of Me
By Sharon Lea
There is the philosophical me
that wants to talk about Thoreau
reading aloud poems from Robert Frost
There is a Sarah Vaughn in me
that wants to sing Ella and Billie too
hearing the audience go wild
There is an explorer in me
that wants to breathe in every state
seeing Appalachia in Fall and Broadway
There is a gentle sculptor in me
that wants to mold gray, squishy clay
creating a beautiful human form
There is a true believer in me
who knows unconditional love is real
trusting in its power and purpose
There is a poetess in me
that wants to write raw and unafraid
blending the good with the bad
There is a public speaker in me
that wants to stand strong at a podium
passionately speaking of humanity
There is a wanderer in me
that wants to meander along wooded trails
feeling the mountain air on my face
There is so much within me
that wants to come out while I have time
filling skies with contrails of delicious hope
