Oh For The Freedom Songs

Oh for the freedom songs
voices rising in peaceful protest
an up swell of harmonious
hunger for dignity and human rights

Oh for the freedom songs
hymns for weary and worn people
given the call to march
coming together in determined motion

​

Oh for the freedom songs
where change was possible with prayer
beyond silence in a room
singing on high hand in hand for change

​

Oh for the freedom songs
lifting hearts in such purposeful pride
singing together in unison
a collective choir believing in the cause

​

Oh for the freedom songs
we need those words that awakened us
gave our feet rhythm to move
and the belief that anything was possible

​

Oh for the freedom songs
the we shall overcome of times gone by
when the power of music
was poetry in motion that changed the world
